Relationship Arc

Arranged Marriage

typically hot intensity 2–5 0 books

Two people are married off by treaty, politics, or family before they ever choose each other, then have to live with — and eventually want — the stranger they're now bound to.

The Shadow Daddy Take

Legally obligated to share a bed with a hot stranger you maybe hate? Devastating. The slow thaw from 'this is a transaction' to 'I would start a war for you' is one of the best arcs in the genre.

What it is

The wedding comes first and the feelings come later — or not at all, until they do. Bound by a contract neither fully consented to, the couple navigates a shared life, a shared name, and usually a single bed, while the chemistry sneaks up on them.

Why it works

It’s forced proximity with a ring on it. The marriage is a fact, so the tension lives in the gap between obligation and genuine want. Watching duty curdle into desire — the first real kiss that wasn’t required — is the whole payoff.

Read this if

You love a slow thaw, a single-bed crisis, and two people falling for each other in spite of the paperwork. For readers who want the romance to outgrow the contract.
